Benefits for your Business with Access Control Systems

Operating a business is no joke. You schedule employees, order inventory, meet with clients, complete follow ups…and the list goes on and on. What if one of your employees lost their keys? How much of an inconvenience and stalled time would your business endure? Or an even bigger concern would be firing an employee who refused to give back their set of work keys. How would you address this issue? Although, there’s no crystal ball to tell us what the future may hold, a proper access control system can help solve these issues and even help your business be more efficient and profitable.

What is an access control system? The purpose of an access control system is to grant access to people with proper credentials and deny those without. By installing an electronic strike at the door with a card or fob reader that is then connected to a controller, you manage who can and cannot enter your building. The controller receives the information from the reader and if the credentials match, the door is released. One of the benefits of this system is you can customize each user to have access to certain parts of your facility based on their job, role or security clearance. For example, employees may have access to the front door and the staff room but managers would have access to safe room, inventory and office supplies. Instead of giving a newly promoted employee additional keys, you simply login to the software and increase their access level. When suspending or firing an employee, you can login to the system and delete the user. The next time that employee tries to use their card, it will flash red and the door will remain locked.

Seeing Green

Access control can save your business thousands of dollars. Having a missing key or an employee that refuses to give back their keys is a huge security threat. In addition, the cost of rekeying and purchasing new keys is a quick way to rack up a large bill.  Often business owners will play the odds and wait to rekey the building due to the high cost and down time that their business would suffer, but yet the potential risks are too high. Having a properly installed access control system can eliminate the risk and stress of a security breach with minimal down time to your business.

Boosted Efficiency

An access control system can offer many solutions for your business. Certain access systems can provide a time and attendance report which may provide important information to increase the efficiency of staff scheduling. This report provides detailed information on the time an employee arrives and leaves as well as length of time in certain areas. The time and attendance report allows an employer to create a time sheet for that pay period or find out how many sick days where taken.

Have you ever been waiting outside a building knocking on the front door or ringing a buzzer in the freezing cold just waiting for someone to hear you? I think most of us have experienced a similar scenario. As a busy business owner, it can be frustrating to have to stop what you are doing to go and open the door for a delivery person. That’s why installing a video intercom as part of your access control system can boost your business’ efficiency and professionalism. With a video intercom, you will be able to verify who the person is and what they are doing without having to waste time going to the door. You can simply let them in from your front desk or even from your mobile if you happen to be working remotely. With a video access control system, you won’t miss anymore deliveries or waste anymore time!
